ERASMUS SPORT PROGRAMME

ERASMUS SPORT PROGRAMME

Erasmus+ actions in the field of sport promote participation in sport, physical activity, and voluntary activities. They are designed to tackle societal and sport-related challenges. Opportunities are available for organisations under 3 Calls which address these challenges:

  • Cooperation Partnerships: Designed for organisations to develop and implement joint activities to promote (among others) sport and physical activity, as well as deal with threats to the integrity of sport (such as doping or match-fixing), promote dual careers for athletes, improve good governance, and foster tolerance and social inclusion.
  • Small-scale Partnerships: For grassroots organisations, less experienced organisations and newcomers to the Programme. Small-Scale Partnerships have simpler administration, smaller grants and shorter durations than Cooperation Partnerships.
  • Not-for-profit European Sport Events: Designed to encourage sporting activity, implement EU strategies for social inclusion through sport, foster volunteering in sport, fight against discrimination and encourage the participation in sport and physical activity. EDC obtained support from Europe under this Call

A specific call on Capacity Building in the field of sport is also available as of 2022.

    FOIL SAILING

    FOIL SAILING

    Foiling Boat

The boat is 6.90 m long, 2.1 m wide (3.58 m rack to rack), has a 1.70 m draught. It is equipped with a fully battened square-top mainsail, a fully battened jib and a gennaker totalling a sail area of 69 m2 (39 m2 upwind) with only 380 kg all-up weight.

The crew is of 3 or 4 persons.

The take off is at 9 knots of boat speed that can be reached in 6 knots of true wind speed and is possible to safely fly at speeds above 30 knots

    Benefits of Sailing

In addition to the undoubted physical benefits typical of a holistic outdoor sports practice, sailing also brings considerable psychological benefits so relevenat that it has been codified as a true cure, called 'Velatherapy'.

Sailing, in fact,  'force' people to move in the same environment and in a limited space, to share emotions and feelings and to collaborate, even under the guidance of a leader. Crew members have specific tasks but -at the same time- they must be able to perform others’ tasks, in case anyone of the members would be unable to do.

Through the leadership experience, it enables people to concentrate, increase self-esteem and autonomy and being subjected to constant stimulation, everyday problems and duties are greatly reduced till they get completely forgotten.

    HEPA

HEPA is the acronym that summarises the European approach to developing effective Health-Enhancing Physical Activity policies. On 13 October 2021 have been puiblished the Physical Activity Factsheets 2021, which are the result of collaboration between the Member States, the World Health Organisation and the European Commission.

This is the third edition of the monitoring sheets, following those collected by the European Commission and the WHO in 2015 and 2018. In addition, 27 reports were produced for individual member states. Each report provides an overview summarising the overall situation across the EU and the indicators show which of the recommended HEPA policies have been implemented in each country.

The regatta will take place in several stages with an initial warm-up phase to give all crews the opportunity to become familiar with the Persico 69F boat, a qualifying round where the first crews will qualify for the final phase, a repechage and knock-out round through which the list of finalists will be completed, and then a final phase that will end with races with increasing points.

    How to follow it live

The regatta will be open to the public and it will be possible to follow it live on the project’s social channels.

    THE TEAMS

EDC involves 10 partner clubs representing geographically the whole Europe area: Spain and Italy representing the mediterranean area; Hungary and Slovenia representing Central Europe; the Netherlands, Finland, Germany, and Denmark representing Northern Europe. The involved sailing clubs account both for marine clubs and lake-water clubs, based in big cities but also small towns.

    PROJECT

The EUROPEAN DREAM CUP project involves 10 European sailing clubs, coordinated by the Circolo Vela Gargnano (Italy), to promote sailing, and foiling in particular, as an inclusive, supportive and sustainable sport.

The EUROPEAN DREAM CUP is a new format of international regatta, a major non-profit sporting event, which during the 2023 Summer will bring together 10 crews from 10 different European countries, composed of young people aged 13 to 18, in the wonderful location of Gargnano (BS) on the Garda Lake, which is actually an internationally renowned sailing spot and home of the famous Centomiglia, the longest regatta held in Europe on inland waters.

Foiling, the dream of flying on water! Youngsters will be able to approach this new technique using the technologically advanced Persico 69F, the new frontier of sailing, with boats 'with wings' similar to those that have made millions of spectators around the world dream during the America's Cup.

The EUROPEAN DREAM CUP will take place over two weeks, during which will be set up the Sailing Village, a meeting point for locals and tourists, a theatre for training and challenges among young people, full of seminars, workshops and laboratories.

The regatta is part of a broader project supported by the European Union through Erasmus+ Sport, which aims to spread and enhance sailing in Europe as it is an inclusive sport capable of transmitting values such as love and respect for the environment and sharing and unique emotions: energy, enthusiasm, passion.

    PROJECT VALUES

    Inclusion

EUROPEAN DREAM CUP pursues the general objective of promoting the practice of sport as a valuable and irreplaceable tool for social inclusion, a drive towards gender equality and health promotion. It aims to raise young people’s awareness of the importance of healthy physical activity, as set out in the “Council Recommendation of the 26th November 2013 on promoting health-enhancing physical activity across sectors ‘. The HEPA (health-enhancing physical activity) approach is crucial, particularly following the effects of the Covid19 pandemic, which had a strong negative impact on the physical and mental well-being of young people. The project picks up Tartu call for a healthy lifestyle and relaunches it, reaffirming the importance of a healthy and active lifestyle and the centrality of sport in its educational value.

    Sustainability

The project also addresses sustainability in its environmental dimension, taking up the demands of Europe and the 2030 Agenda to tackle the climate crisis. Individual behaviour is part of a necessary change and more sustainable habits are needed: a sport such as sailing, which is completely environmentally friendly, can play a central role in raising awareness. Few other sports, like sailing, can have such a profound and global impact on how individuals perceive the environment around them and the various elements (water, air, land). The project will therefore be a key tool for the development of knowledge, skills and conscious attitudes on climate change and sustainable development. All the clubs involved will implement information actions (education of children and adults) on the protection of water and marine and lake flora and fauna as well as concrete actions such as choosing eco-friendly fibres for boats and caring for and protecting the environment.

    Technology

The project develops training and participation by harnessing the potential of digital technology to open up the event to the whole of Europe, allowing anyone to ‘surf the net remotely’ and virtually support the race teams. Cutting-edge and innovative technology is also found in the selected boats, giving young people the opportunity to confront themselves with the top sailing experience currently available. Therefore EDC2022 is an inclusive and viral event that will involve the whole of Europe (in presence and online) in a series of events that will inform, amaze, excite and entertain.

    PARTNERS CLUB

    PARTNERS CLUB

EDC involves 10 partners geographically representing the whole of Europe: Spain and Italy for the Mediterranean area, Bulgaria, Hungary and Slovenia for Central Europe, the Netherlands, Finland, Germany and Denmark for Northern Europe. The nautical clubs involved represent both marine and lake clubs, covering large cities and small towns.
